The story

Research supporting engineering learning

An Illinois Institute of Technology open textbook draws on Professor Amir’s green-roof research. Building Envelope Inspection and Rehabilitation Engineering uses the review in its introduction to green roofs, explaining the municipal and state incentives supporting adoption in North American cities.

Connecting environmental benefits and construction practice

The green-roof chapter places these incentives alongside practical considerations including structural demands, architectural detailing, waterproofing, energy use and lifecycle costs. The full chapter reference list links the review to its original Applied Energy publication.

An open educational resource

The textbook is authored by Jamshid Mohammadi, Edoarda Corradi Dell’ Acqua, Bora Jang and Soliman Khudeira and shared on Engineering LibreTexts under a Creative Commons Attribution licence. It provides another route for Professor Amir’s research to reach people learning about building-envelope inspection and rehabilitation.
